Investing in Adult Education is an important strategy for building a competitive workforce and a key first step in connecting low-income and low-skilled workers to family sustaining wages. As seen from recent successful economic development bids, global competition and increased use of technology require multiple strategies for Mississippi to expand its ability to generate high-quality jobs. According to the State Workforce Investment Board, the biggest challenge to Mississippi’s economy moving into the next decade is a shortage of qualified workers.
